There are two key differences between commercial and residential products

Commercial products are designed to withstand heavy foot traffic and wear & tear. Additionally, commercial products require a unique skillset to install effectively. That is not to say commercial flooring cannot be used in residential areas, but residential flooring is not typically used in commercial areas.

Donald Flooring can supply & install just about any brand or type of commercial flooring you require. Busy office? Jacking & lifting furniture to install carpet tile is what we do.  Does your resilient flooring need the seams to be welded?  Is the floor level, what about moisture? Our Floor Layers are trained in flash coving, which is used in areas that need to be sterile or with moisture control. Broadloom carpet? A dying art. There is a special knack to installing commercial broadloom, does the carpet need to be maneuvered so it is straight? Pattern matching can sometimes be difficult for an installer who has only installed carpet tile, not broadloom.  Donald Flooring installs Commercial Flooring- that is what we do!

Carpet Tile

Installation without Disruption

Carpet tile is a great product for areas with high volume or areas that are filled with furniture. Carpet tile is often made with some recycled content and is much easier to install than broadloom carpet or resilient flooring. The sub-floor requires less prep than one that is being covered with resilient. Donald Flooring uses special jacks to lift workstations off the floor, so most rooms do not need to be emptied prior to installation. Custom designs are achieved by changing the direction of the tile or adding in solid colours. Some manufacturers offer glueless systems so there is no glue off (gas) smell. Carpet tiles come in a variety of shapes such as square, plank, hexagons & triangles.

Flexible for Commercial Areas

Carpet tiles are easy for temporary installs, there is no damage to the sub-floor when removed. The greatest advantage to carpet tile is flexibility. If a tile is damaged or stained, you can replace it with a new tile or move tiles around to hide the damaged tile. If renovations take place after installation, moving walls, repairs and patches are easy. Carpet tile is easy to store, the boxes are only 2′ x 2′, so maintenance material will fit in a small area. Carpet tile is used 80% of the time in commercial offices.

Broadloom Carpet

Carpet on a Budget

Commercial broadloom carpet is a type of carpet that is woven on a very wide loom. It is available in both natural and synthetic materials. The advantages of broadloom carpet are you can use it in large rooms and have less seams. Broadloom is generally installed over carpet pad which protects the life of the carpet and adds more of a “plush” feeling. Broadloom is a more viable option for those with smaller budgets.

Viable and Seamless

Many designers and customers prefer broadloom carpet not only because there are less seams, but you can have more intricate patterns in the carpet. Another benefit to broadloom carpet is you do not have to be as particular with the sub-floor. While moisture is still a problem with carpet, it is a bit more forgiving in that area compared to resilient flooring, and imperfections in the floor are covered versus magnified. Proper maintenance will always extend the life of your product.

Broadloom carpet can be one shade or varied with numerous intricate patterns that require experienced floor layers to install.  Wool or nylon are your typical materials for broadloom.  Nylon is generally more budget friendly.

Resilient Flooring

Easy Maintenance

Resilient Flooring is a great product if you are looking for flooring that is available in many different styles, is easy to maintain and is stain resistant. When maintained properly, most resilient flooring will keep its appearance longer than carpet. Resilient Flooring is generally used in areas where spills often occur such as lunchrooms, washrooms & copy rooms. Static Dissipative Tile is a type of resilient flooring that lessons static electricity making it a safe alternative for rooms with electrical equipment such as computers, copiers, printers etc. Resilient Flooring is generally a higher-priced option purely due to installation requirements.

Functional and Visually Appealing

The Sub Floor is required to be smooth since most imperfections will telegraph through. Moisture tests are always suggested prior to installing resilient flooring. Donald Flooring can provide moisture testing and moisture abatement in areas where needed. Resilient Flooring has come a long way in the aesthetics department. In addition to the traditional looks often seen in hospitals and other institutions, there are many products that replicate wood, stone and granite. Resilient Flooring also provides greater health benefits. Products are available with anti-microbial properties; germs & mold will not grow in the areas of the flooring. There are many different varieties of resilient flooring.  Donald Floors installs most varieties such as Luxury Vinyl Tile, Vinyl Composite Tile, Vinyl Plank, Rubber Sheet & Modular Flooring, Vinyl Sheet Good’s, Marmoleum Sheet Good’s, Marmoleum Modular Tile, Rubber Stair Tread’s & Nosing’s, Tactile Warning Surface’s & Hygienic Wall Coverings.
